It once was a young ladies trick.

To give flirty boyfriends the flick.

Then they could be single and free

The vessels of virginity,

With scruples that forever stick

General meaning of the poetry above is about women who gives her virginity freely to her boyfriend or somebody else but she dumped and leaved by her boyfriend. And very surprising that ladies feel carefree as if no load.
